Half life vs counter strike, whats the difference?

Our package just got here last week from China with these really cool CS figures from 1000's Of Chinese Wholesale Items Shipped Direct From China ToYourDoor that I bought for my son. He is only 8 and I am starting to think that the computer game is a little too violent for him but the toys are kinda cute and harmless. Does anyone know if these characters have names? I have heard some people call this game half life, is there a difference?

Half Life is the base game for Counter-Strike, it originated as a modification to the game Half Life. Now they sell the two game seperately.

As for the action figures, they are kinda cute, although they don't have specific character names. In the game they would be referred to by the military force they belonged to.
